  History

The Congregation of the Resurrection and the School Sisters of Notre Dame are responsible for the education of the youth of St. Stanislaus Kostka.

St.Stanislaus Kostka School opened its doors in 1874. Four sisters from the School Sisters of Notre Dame taught 89 students that first year; by 1876, enrollment had risen to 500. By 1907 there were over 4,000 students taught by a staff of 76 sisters making it the largest elementary school in the U.S.

Since its opening 1874, the school had given 54 vocations to the priesthood. Twenty-four of those priests joined the Congregation of the Resurrection. Vocations to the sisterhood number 354; of those vocations, 197 joined the order of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
